Trigger Point Therapy-Northside Massage Aspley, Brisbane

Trigger Point Therapy-Northside Massage Aspley, Brisbane 150 150 Northside Massage

Trigger Point Therapy involves applying pressure (within the Client’s comfort zone) to Trigger Points, in order that the whole muscle can then relax and return to its resting length. Trigger points are areas of tenderness in a muscle. These can sometimes be felt as a lump when the muscle is massaged.

As a result of this release, any metabolites and waste products that have accumulated in these muscle knots are then moved into the circulation. It is important that after a massage, adequate water is consumed to flush out the circulatory system, otherwise one can experience headaches, dizziness, tiredness or muscle tightness. Trigger points can also be treated by regular stretching.

On a microscopic level, trigger points are made up of segments of muscle fibres which remain in their contracted or shortened state. These develop due to sustained use of the particular muscle in various postures or with various sporting activities. Trigger Points are so named as they can trigger an area of referred pain when they are compressed. These areas of pain do not correlate with the nerve supply to the overlying skin.

What is Electro Dry Needling?

Electro Dry Needling is a modified form of dry needling which utilises an electro-stimulation unit connected via cables to fine filament needles. The combination of dry needling with electro-stimulation often prolongs the pain relief effect by blocking nerve pathways and preventing pain signals from travelling to the brain.

Electro Dry Needling is commonly used to treat Acute and Chronic Conditions such as: Muscoskeletal Pain: Strains, Spasms, Cramps, Hypertonicity, Trigger Points, Bone Fractures.Tendinopathies and Joint Pathologies: Arthritis, Sprains, Disc Pathologies, Joint Restriction.Nerve Damage: Neuropathy, Radiculopathy, Post-Operative Pain.

Cupping

Cupping- Northside Massage & Natural Therapies Centre, Aspley 2560 1656 Northside Massage

Sliding Cupping – Myofascial congestion, adhesions

This type of cupping treats muscular tension and knots by sliding the cup along the course of a muscle to break up muscle fiber tension. The muscle is put on a stretch and this causes the fibers to open allowing a flushing of red blood into a tight, strained, spasm, rigid or knotted muscle.

The action of sliding cupping is similar to the massage method of lock and block used in myofascial stripping. Common muscles treated include trapezius, latissimus dorsi, quadratus lumborum, and rhomboid.

Myofascial cupping can treat adhesions, maintain functional soft tissue, encourage hydration to muscles and release metabolic congestion from overuse in manual work or sport.

Myotherapy takes the traditional manual treatment to the next level by using evidence based assessment and treatment tools to determine the cause of your pain or dysfunction. We aim to treat the cause of your pain and or dysfunction which will in turn treat your symptoms.

Myotherapy is the assessment, treatment and management of musculoskeletal conditions, which may cause muscular dysfunction and the pain thus affecting movement & mobility. Myotherapists utilise a range of treatment techniques to restore and maintain the normal integrity of the soft tissue structures (muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia). They also employ various soft tissue manipulation techniques, together with other modalities such as: trigger point therapy, dry needling, deep tissue massage, hot and cold therapies, passive/active muscle stretching, myofascial techniques (including cupping and trigger point therapy) and corrective or rehabilitative exercises. A Myotherapist aims to identify the cause of one’s pain to ensure quick, effective and long lasting results.

Myotherapy can be helpful in filling the gap between remedial massage and physiotherapy.
